Interclub – Judges #1

Gabriel O’Shaughnessy MFIAP, FIPF, FRPS, EFIAP/b

We are delighted to announce that Gabriel O’Shaughnessy along with Kieran Metcalfe will Judge the 2022 SACC Interclub. No stranger to SACC Clubs Gabriel enjoys and is hugely successful in many genres and aspects of photography.  In each photograph his challenge is the same – he portrays a mood or feeling that goes beyond the image itself and connects with the viewer.

In 2011 Gabriel was awarded the MFIAP distinction after being nominated to apply by the Irish Photographic Federation. Gabriel has over 200 awards for photography.    Due to his success in FIAP and PSA competitions, he has been honoured to judge and speak at major international salons such as the SAUD AL-THANI AWARD for photography and the TRIERENBURG SUPER CIRCUIT and also many of the UK and Ireland’s top salons. It’s no secret we have tried to get him in the past, we are lucky to have got timings right this year to have him as a judge for 2022.

SACC A NEW DAWN

Hi Everyone, This year we are delighted to announce the expansion of the SACC Committee. It is no longer solely based on the one Club in Blarney but has the following new members from Clubs right across our area. The New Members are:

1.  Suzanne Beehan – Kilkenny Photographic Society.

2.  Kieran Cogan – Mallow Camera Club.

3.  Rosanne Donovan – East Cork Camera Club.

4.  Ann Francis – Cork Camera Group.

5.. Denis Ryan – Limerick Camera Club.

The new members have joined the committee and I am sure they will each make a valuable contribution to our endeavours on behalf of club photography in the Region. Details of the exciting forthcoming Inter-Club Competitions for the SACC Inter-Club Cup and SACC Inter-Club Shield will be posted soon. These competitions cater for both Large and Small Clubs and are an ideal way to generate some activity in each club, particularly in the current circumstances. Everyone is catered for and being “On-Line” it is within reach of every club. Please make every effort to get your club involved this year. Full details of these will be available to download from the Competition Page soon.

The competition is now being sponsored by the EPA in honour of their esteemed colleague John Doheny who was a founding member of the SACC.  John had a long and distinguished career in the EPA and his love of photography was clear to see. Many EPA publications contain photographs that John took over the years and his photographic work is on display in the Cork Office as well as being reproduced as far and wide as the European Environment Agency and the  European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

John was a founder member of Mallow Camera Club and a previous Secretary, Chair and Webmaster of the SACC.  John served the SACC in various roles and was instrumental in keeping the organisation alive and growing over the years. The launch on 1st June 2021 coincides with the first anniversary of John’s untimely death.

Full details and rules will be published next week.
